“Nonobjective painting is a powerful medium for the free expression of emotions, feelings, and individuality. My work focuses on the creative process rather than a specific image or place. Guided by intuitive impulses, I apply vigorous gestural marks or brushstrokes that emerge from deep within. The surface is built, destroyed, and erased repeatedly, creating a subtle yet sensitive history of what has been. This cycle of creation and dissolution continues until, from the chaos, a painting ultimately evolves.”
Sally Cooper has been painting throughout her life, beginning to actively explore her creative talents in the late 1980s. In 1990, she was honored with the Annual Art Award from Broward Community College. During the mid-1990s, Sally shifted away from detailed representational work and began embracing the abstract. By 2000, she had fully moved away from image reference, and her style blossomed into vibrant explosions of color, dynamic markings, and fluid movement. Her work has been showcased in numerous regional and national competitive exhibitions, receiving awards in many of them.
Notably, Sally was awarded First Place in 2004 and 2017, Second Place in 2006, Third Place in 2017 and Honorable Mention in 2010, 2013 and 2014 in The Artist’s Magazine’s National Competitions. Some of her award-winning works include "Red Symphony IV", "Conversation in Blue”, “Penumbra III”, “Sky”, "Mediterranea”, “Blue Horizon” and “Enigma”.
Sally is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society, and her work has been featured in Acrylic Artist, Professional Artist, and The Artist’s Magazine. In 2017, her work was included in the publication Art Journey Abstract Painting. Additionally, her piece "Blue Horizon” was chosen for the cover of The Artist’s Magazine.
Sally is also an educator, teaching abstract painting and leading workshops, further sharing her passion and expertise with others.
